Cognitive Hypnotherapy Canterbury

I offer Cognitive Hypnotherapy in Canterbury to help with anxiety, stress, confidence, self-esteem, phobias and unwanted habits.

Change doesn’t happen through willpower alone. It happens when the unconscious mind comes on board..

So often, we know what we want to change: the anxiety, the habits, the low confidence, the endless overthinking. But willpower, logic, and “trying harder” only get us so far.
That’s because many of our struggles are rooted in unconscious patterns, old protective strategies and beliefs we didn’t choose, but which still run the show.

Your brain and body are doing exactly what they're designed to do, They're trying to keep you safe.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy helps you rewrite those patterns.

Instead of sticking a plaster on symptoms, we go to the root. Through safe, gentle hypnotherapy techniques — blended with NLP BLAST, Havening, Thought Field Therapy (Tapping), Positive Psychology Coaching, and Somatic work — we unlock and shift what’s keeping you stuck.

This work can help you

  • Feel calmer and more resilient in everyday life
  • Quiet the inner critic and build genuine confidence
  • Release anxiety and stress at their root
  • Break free from unhelpful habits (emotional eating, people pleasing, avoidance)
  • Reconnect with your own strength and clarity

My Approach

This isn’t “traditional hypnotherapy.”

No swinging watches.

No scripts.

No pretending you’re a chicken.

My approach is integrative, modern, and deeply personalised. Each session weaves together tools that best fit where you are that day — Hypnotherapy, Somatic Coaching, Havening, TFT, NLP, Positive Psychology, Breathwork, and more.

Everything we do is at your pace, with safety and trust at the heart of the process.

I have been able to reflect on my values, identify my strengths and learn the importance of self acceptance and self compassion. This has had a positive impact on my resilience.

My Training

I trained and qualified in 2012 with the Quest Institute — pioneers of Cognitive Hypnotherapy, a modern evidence-based approach that blends the latest research in neuroscience, positive psychology, and traditional hypnotherapy.

This training means the work we do together isn’t about “cookie-cutter” hypnosis. Instead, it’s personalised, flexible, and grounded in the latest understanding of how the mind works - helping you create lasting change in a way that feels natural and empowering.

You don't have to cope alone.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy FAQs

Can I be hypnotised?

Almost everyone can be hypnotised. Hypnosis is a natural, relaxed state of focused attention—like when you’re completely absorbed in a book or a movie. Some people go into a deeper trance, while others stay lightly aware; either way, the process works.

Can I speak whilst hypnotised?

Yes. You are fully able to respond, speak, and interact during sessions. Hypnosis is collaborative—you are active in the process and your input guides the work.

What is being in a trance like?

Being in trance is like a deeply focused and relaxed state. Your mind becomes more open to exploring patterns, processing emotions, and imagining new possibilities. Most people feel calm, aware, and safe, often noticing heightened clarity and insight.

Is Cognitive Hypnotherapy safe?

Yes. It is evidence-informed, trauma-sensitive, and personalised to your needs. Every session is designed to be safe, gentle, and empowering.

Will I be aware of what is happening?

Absolutely. Hypnosis is not sleep or unconsciousness. You remain aware, alert, and able to choose how you respond at every stage.

Will I be in control?

Yes. You remain in full control throughout the session. Hypnotherapy is a partnership, not a power-over situation. You guide the process and can stop or adjust at any time.

Could I remain hypnotised after the session?

No. Trance naturally ends when the session does. You leave fully alert and able to return to your normal activities immediately.

Do you use drugs?

No. Hypnotherapy relies on natural mental states, guided relaxation, and focused attention—never drugs or chemicals.

What can I expect to happen in a session?

Each session is tailored to your needs. Typically, we:

  • Explore the patterns you want to change

  • Identify the issue at its root

  • Gently guide your brain and body to reprocess old responses
  • Introduce new, safe patterns for confidence, calm, and resilience

You may notice immediate relief, but lasting change develops as the new patterns change over time.

How often will I need to see you?

On average, most clients see significant shifts in 4 sessions over approximately 2–2.5 months. Spacing sessions allows your brain and nervous system to integrate the new patterns fully, making the changes long-lasting rather than temporary. Some clients continue for deeper transformation, depending on their goals.

I now believe in myself in a way that I hadn’t been able to do before, am calmer and more able to deal with my emotions, and see strengths in myself that I had never been able to recognise. I have been able to face challenging situations with relative calm and hold myself together when others around me struggled.
