Cognitive Hypnotherapy in Canterbury:
How it works?
I offer Cognitive Hypnotherapy in Canterbury to help with anxiety, stress, confidence, self-esteem, phobias and unwanted habits.
Change doesn’t happen through willpower alone. It happens when the unconscious mind comes on board..
So often, we know what we want to change: the anxiety, the habits, the low confidence, the endless overthinking. But willpower, logic, and “trying harder” only get us so far.
That’s because many of our struggles are rooted in unconscious patterns, old protective strategies and beliefs we didn’t choose, but which still run the show.
Your brain and body are doing exactly what they're designed to do, They're trying to keep you safe.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy helps you rewrite those patterns.
Instead of sticking a plaster on symptoms, we go to the root. Through safe, gentle hypnotherapy techniques — blended with NLP BLAST, Havening, Thought Field Therapy (Tapping), Positive Psychology Coaching, and Somatic work — we unlock and shift what’s keeping you stuck.
This work can help you
- Feel calmer and more resilient in everyday life
- Quiet the inner critic and build genuine confidence
- Release anxiety and stress at their root
- Break free from unhelpful habits (emotional eating, people pleasing, avoidance)
- Reconnect with your own strength and clarity

My Approach
This isn’t “traditional hypnotherapy.”
No swinging watches.
No scripts.
No pretending you’re a chicken.
My approach is integrative, modern, and deeply personalised. Each session weaves together tools that best fit where you are that day — Hypnotherapy, Somatic Coaching, Havening, TFT, NLP, Positive Psychology, Breathwork, and more.
Everything we do is at your pace, with safety and trust at the heart of the process.
I have been able to reflect on my values, identify my strengths and learn the importance of self acceptance and self compassion. This has had a positive impact on my resilience.

My Training
I trained and qualified in 2012 with the Quest Institute — pioneers of Cognitive Hypnotherapy, a modern evidence-based approach that blends the latest research in neuroscience, positive psychology, and traditional hypnotherapy.
This training means the work we do together isn’t about “cookie-cutter” hypnosis. Instead, it’s personalised, flexible, and grounded in the latest understanding of how the mind works - helping you create lasting change in a way that feels natural and empowering.
You don't have to cope alone.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy FAQs
I don’t think I can be hypnotised — is that a problem?
Most people can experience a relaxed state of focused attention in their own way. You do not need to perform, “go deep” or get it right for a session to be useful. Nike will explain the process clearly and work with you at a pace that feels comfortable.
What is cognitive hypnotherapy?
Cognitive hypnotherapy is a personalised approach that uses conversation, focused attention and guided relaxation to explore the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Rather than following one standard script, Nike tailors the work to you, your goals and what feels appropriate on the day.
What’s the difference between hypnotherapy and cognitive hypnotherapy?
Cognitive hypnotherapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. Nike works collaboratively with you and adapts the approach to the way you think, feel and respond, rather than applying a standard protocol or generic script. You remain involved throughout and can ask questions, pause or adjust the pace at any time.
Will I be unconscious or lose control?
No. Hypnosis is not sleep or unconsciousness, and you remain aware of what is happening. You stay in control throughout the session and can speak, ask questions, pause or stop at any point.
What can cognitive hypnotherapy help with?
People come to Nike with a range of concerns, including anxiety, stress, low confidence, self-doubt, fears, phobias and habits that no longer serve them. The focus is on understanding the patterns involved and deciding what support feels appropriate for your goals. Everyone’s experience and response to the work is individual.
Does cognitive hypnotherapy work online?
Online sessions can be a practical option if you have a private, comfortable space and a reliable internet connection. Nike will explain how the format works and help you decide whether an online appointment feels suitable for you.
Could I remain hypnotised after the session?
No. Trance naturally ends when the session does. You leave fully alert and able to return to your normal activities immediately.
What happens in a cognitive hypnotherapy session?
A session starts with a conversation about what you would like support with and what you hope will be different. Nike then works with you at a manageable pace, using tailored guided techniques rather than a fixed script. There is time to reflect on the experience and decide what feels useful for you afterwards.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies because people come with different goals, histories and levels of support needed. Nike can discuss your situation during a free clarity call and agree an approach that feels manageable, rather than promising a fixed number of sessions in advance.
I now believe in myself in a way that I hadn’t been able to do before, am calmer and more able to deal with my emotions, and see strengths in myself that I had never been able to recognise. I have been able to face challenging situations with relative calm and hold myself together when others around me struggled.
